Cassie felt like a rag doll when he released his hold. She slid from the horse and slumped to the ground. He half dragged and half carried her inside his lodge. Without a word, Wolfkeeper pushed her on to a pallet made of furs and blankets. He moved to the other side of the lodge. When he turned back to her, he squatted and placed a gourd serving as a cup filled with water to her lips. ‟Drink,” was all he said. Cassie drank greedily. When it was empty, she asked for more. He ignored her request and pushed her forcing her to lie against the furs. With all her energy spent when she was separated from Timothy, all she could do was lay there. Wolfkeeper exited through the opening and left her alone. Too drained to do anything else, Cassie fell asleep almost instantly. *** Cassie struggled through the nightmares of the past couple of days as they filled her dreams. Wolfkeeper’s return to the lodge went unnoticed. He watched her thrash about while captive in her nightmare. It surprised him to find the desire to comfort her crossing his mind. Wolfkeeper found himself inching towards her, but stopped short and returned to his seat. He knew the night tremors she fought were nothing compared to the heart-rending choices that lay ahead of her. He gave no thought as to why he had the unprecedented impulse to keep offering comfort to one who he thought of only as an enemy. Wolfkeeper despised white people. He hardly ever went raiding anymore, because it took him too close to them. When younger, he had no qualms about raiding. But even then it was not like some of the young ones now. He had his fill of being bloodthirsty. The scalps that hung in his lodge were from his early years. He had lost friends and relatives in battle. A couple of years ago, he had come to appreciate the importance of life, especially the beauty of a peaceful one. Now, he usually remained close to home and let the younger men build their own reputations. He wasn’t sure why he had agreed to this last trip. Looking at the woman across from him, enemy or not, Wolfkeeper decided this was his last raid. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A31PMO0 *** I get to be Queen For A Day as I talk about The Next Big Thing. I’ve been tagged by fellow author Traci Hohenstein who writes terrific women’s fiction. I’m supposed to tell you about my next book by answering the following questions, and then I have tagged five other authors who will tell you about their Next Big Thing. Let’s get started! What is the working title of your next book? Wolfkeeper’s Woman Where did the idea come from for the book? Years ago when I read the ‘bodice rippers’ paperbacks I moved from the European Victorian era to North American Historical and still love reading them. What genre does your book fall under? I think those in the know would say more fiction than romance. But, it is a love story. A love story about sacrifice. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? Twenty years ago I could tell you. Today with the new actors you sent me to the Google search and after looking at the latest hot hunk actors, all day...What was the question? What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Cassie and her son after taken captive must learn to except life sometimes forces unforeseen heart rendering choices on us all. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? This one is self-published. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? To complete the first draft and a rough one at that about five months. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Books by Madeline Baker and Catherine Anderson... to insult a few excellent authors. Who or What inspired you to write this book? Being out of work and having reread all the books in the house. I had no choice but to entertain myself. I am not a big fan of daytime TV soaps. I a little something and then wrote some more. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? Wolfkeeper’s Woman doesn’t follow the rules of the romance genre. The hero and heroine do not fall instantly in love. Once Wolfkeeper discovers his feelings for Cassie, the woman whose husband he killed and the child he gave away he knows he has to heal her heart before he can even think of claiming it.
